Gravity: Review of a Review

Rotten Tomatoes describes the movie Gravity as "a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space". At times I agree, that the movie was in fact a heart pounding thriller, but for the most part I found the movie quite boring. A lot of the movie was just watching Sandra Bullock, who plays Dr. Ryan Stone, breathing, doing absolutely nothing. I felt that it was kind of predictable and very unrealistic at times, especially the ending. Sandra Bullock and George Clooney go to space for a mission, when disaster strikes. Their shuttle is destroyed, and are forced to survive on their own without any communication. The special effects in the movie were amazing, but other than that, I was not really interested.

Questions

Things I have learned
I learned about how different camera angles make a scene look more interesting. For example, if you film each person as they are talking and switch from person to person, it makes it more exciting, rather than just filming straight on in one shot. I also have learned a little film vocabulary, which I can use to recognize different shots and things in a movie.

Ideas I have contributed
When working in our groups, I have contributed ideas about our movie remake. I gave some ideas about the plot, story board, and characters.

What I want to take away
I want to learn how to make a movie look and sound more professional. I also want to learn how to do some cool special effects.
